Tagamet

editor's choice best hair loss treatment Most widely used as an over-the-counter antacid and anti-heartburn drug, Tagamet is available at nearly every drug store and supermarket that has a health and beauty section. However, it has been discovered that Tagamet, if taken in multiple does throughout the day, can some anti-androgen effects. Under these conditions, Tagamet is believed to be effective as an alternative medical hair loss treatment.

Tagamet Benefits

Because the androgen, dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the primary cause of hair loss in most individuals, the anti-androgen properties of Tagamet are believed by some to be effective for hair regrowth. This effect is minimal at best, though, because large multiple doses of Tagamet have to be taken daily in order to tap into its anti-androgenic properties. For this reason, Tagamet is not typically recommended as an alternative medical hair loss treatment since the excessive use of this drug can have adverse effects.

Tagamet Side Effects

Common side effects associated with Tagamet include mild diarrhea, mild to severe headaches, constipation, muscle pain, insomnia, vomiting, and nausea. Some users may experience major side effects such as hallucinations, confusion, impotence, enlarged breasts, and decreased white blood cell counts. Other less common side effects may include rash, hepatitis, skin rash, allergic reactions, visual changes and irregular heartbeats. Some consumers who have taken large multiple does of Tagamet on a daily basis have also experienced some hair loss.

Does Tagamet Really Work?

Tagamet is simply not practical when used as an alternative medical hair loss treatment. As a matter of fact, most doctors worth their weight in salt won't recommend Tagamet as a hair loss treatment because of the counterproductive nature of large multiple daily doses. Plus, the side effects are too numerous to bear, especially when there are much safer and more effective hair loss products on the market.

Many products of this sort incorporate the use of nanosomes for more efficient delivery of active ingredients. Nanotechnology utilizes particles about 200 times smaller than cells in order to accomplish this end. This means faster hair growth and more effective absorption of ingredients.
